During a period of rapid growth, One Workplace needed increased capacity in their workspace. Rather than expanding outward, they expanded vertically by creating a mass timber (CLT) mezzanine to capture additional real estate from a double height ceiling. This construction provided employees with a variety of flexible work settings.

Increased Capacity + Construction Innovation

The ‘Loft’ is a prefabricated structure built using a heavy timber solution fabricated by DIRTT. The timber is CNC milled at the factory for a fast on-site install. In addition to the timber structure, there are freestanding conference rooms constructed with DIRTT prefabricated assemblies, set on top of a raised floor, and divided with an operable partition to maximize flexibility.

To make this radical structure and unique construction method possible, the Vantis team worked closely with the local planning authorities to ensure compliance with strict California seismic codes. The use of software technology in design and fabrication resulted in a first of its kind structure for the state of California.
